Scott Downing spoke about the complications regarding national divorce month and its impact on business owners, especially in cases where the spouses seeking divorce are co-owners of the business at hand.

“If you own a business with your spouse, it can be expressed in the paperwork as 50-50 owners of the company. There’s a lot of times the wife will be the majority shareholder, so they can take advantage of being a woman-owned business,” he explained. “That alone, though, doesn’t dictate how the company is going to be divided.”
