You need some blank sheets of paper to use as the basis for your card. It can be plain white paper or construction paper.
We used crayons and markers for tracing, drawing, writing, and coloring. Alternatively, you could use non-toxic paint for making the handprint. However, it is messier and you will have to wait for it to dry.
The stickers are optional but fun, if you have preschool aged children like mine that can’t do very advanced drawing yet. My directions are also aimed at parents helping young kids with this handprint art but if your children are older, just give them the instructions and let them have at it!

It is so fun to see what special things they love about each family member! Grab your supplies and get ready for an fun and easy card making tutorial.
First, fold the longest edge of the sheet of paper in half to form a card.
I let my children each pick a color and we wrote at the top of the card: “5 reasons why you are the best Valentine!” I did this for my pre-school aged kids but if your kids are older they can do it themselves.
Allow your child to trace their hand. Younger preschoolers may need a little guidance.
Next, ask your child what they really like about the person they are making the card for and write those down. Write one reason in each finger. If your child can write by themself, let him/her do the writing! If not, do it for them.
Then let kids pick out a color to color in the handprint with. We tried to do coordinating colors. We traced with markers and then the kids colored in with a crayon.
Let kids decorate the handprint Valentine craft card with stickers. Finally, they can leave a sweet message inside or simply draw a heart and write their name.
